Suffolk Councils, working with the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, are helping to deliver a brand-new national programme to boost opportunities for young people in the workplace.
Kickstart has been designed by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to provide six-month employment placements for 16-24s on Universal Credit - assisting them in gaining the skills and experience they need to succeed in the future.
The scheme provides funding to cover the wages of each placement (equivalent of up to 25 hours a week of national minimum wage) as well as extra funding to help support the development of the young person.
In Suffolk, we have committed to a partnership approach, working across the public sector, alongside skills and training providers (including our colleges), with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce acting as the “Gateway” organisation for employers wishing to register their interest.
Our partnership approach draws on the strengths of multiple organisations and services to provide the information, support and advice that will help our local employers create high quality placement opportunities for young people. As well as benefitting our local employers at this challenging time, Kickstart placements will provide young people in Suffolk with an opportunity to acquire new skills and experience and progress in their chosen field.
For more information on Kickstart and/or to register your interest in providing a placement please contact Emma at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For more information on the support available to help you establish a wider range of opportunities for young people such as apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience please contact the Apprenticeships Suffolk service at who will arrange a call at your convenience.
