Stage one

This first stage, encompassing steps 1 & 2, covers early project creation and engagement.

First Steps

Outcomes

  • Early engagement between applicant and LPA agreeing: 
  • Shared understanding of strategic priorities and key constraints 
  • Combined understanding of each party’s objectives and needs for the site 
  • Agreement on future communications and key contacts 
  • Early and consistent engagement leading to a de-risking of the planning process 

 

APPLICANT EXPECTATIONS

  • Early dialogue with Local Planning Authority
  • Share pre-engagement work 
  • Engagement with made or emerging neighbourhood plans 
  • Coordination of landowners 
  • Establish a shared record of actions and decisions

COUNCIL

  • The right corporate resources ready at the right time
  • Ensure all publicly available site and plan information available and accessible
  • Establish a shared record of actions and decisions

COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDING

  • Publicly available information kept updated
  • Primary contact points for community/developer/LPA to be available if required

 

APPLICANT/DEVELOPER EXPECTATIONS

  • Applicant brief on engagement with SDMP 
  • Creation of SDMP log providing record of meetings / actions, design checklist and infrastructure requirements 
  • Expected / draft delivery programme to be shared
  • Updated challenges and risks to be shared 

COUNCIL

  • Internal sharing of information between Policy and Development Management
  • Corporate coordination & orientation around corporate priorities & objectives

COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDING

  • Update publicly available information
