Accessibility and Inclusion
Enabling Growth in the Suffolk Visitor EconomyThe Purple Pound is set to boost Suffolk’s visitor economy
One in five people in the UK have an impairment, which may affect where they choose to stay or visit.
People with health conditions & impairments and their travelling companions spend around £300 million on visits and day trips in Suffolk each year. This ‘purple pound’ value accounts for 20% of all visitor spending in Suffolk.
Suffolk Growth has worked with partners including the national agency Visit England to review how the visitor economy sector can develop a more accessible and inclusive experience for visitors to Suffolk ranging from adapting our physical facilities to transport, skills and information provision.
The report identifies some of the good practice already in place in Suffolk and uses research from national and local sources to explore the potential for all stakeholders in the visitor economy to significantly grow the ‘Purple Pound’.
Suffolk Growth is now working with partners across the sector to support Suffolk’s ambition to become a leading ‘Accessible tourism’ destination and boost the Purple Pound benefit to the local economy.
